There are several options for getting to chair 9, including a free four-stage gondola that runs from the historic downtown down to the upper ski village, which includes ski rentals and a number of dining options. How to get to chair 9 on a powder day
There’s a good chance that chair 9 will be mobbed on a big powder day, so you may need to plan your ride early in the morning or late in the afternoon to ensure you get fresh tracks. Lifts 9 and 14 can also be crowded on days when the ski resort is having a special event.
Alternatively, you can always try to ski the trees on Revelation Bowl or Gold Hill. These areas offer plenty of ungroomed expert terrain and you can often find fresh snow on the tree line there.
The easiest way to get to chair 9 is by catching the gondola from the town of Telluride, which drops you off right by the base of chair 9. This gondola is free and runs every 10 minutes during the busiest parts of the day, then it’s every 15 and 20 minutes until it gets dark.
It’s a great way to avoid the parking hassles and you can enjoy the views of the mountains from the top. You can also walk from the gondola station to Oak Street for dinner and shopping after skiing.
What to Expect on a Chair 9 Trip
The ski area at chair 9 is very large and boasts over 2,000 acres of terrain. It offers everything from groomed cruisers to steep ungroomed trails. There are also a few incredibly difficult runs that are directly lift-serviced.
What’s more, there are a number of backcountry access points to a handful of summit areas, and the resort offers a backcountry ski school that can take you on an adventurous and challenging backcountry adventure.
Some of the backcountry terrain can be challenging to navigate, but it’s still a great experience and you’ll be rewarded with some of the most stunning views in Colorado.
